Homemade Refried Beans

Making your own refried beans is easier than you think. OK, so technically they’re not fried even once, but they sure taste a whole lot better than anything you can get from a can. They’re easy to make if you have a crock pot and a potato masher. Serve them with your favorite Mexican food.

Crock Pot
Measuring cup
¼ teaspoon
Large spoon
Potato Masher

1 lb. dried pinto beans (2½ cups)
7½ cups water
2 tsp. kosher salt
¼ tsp. black pepper
1 Tbsp. olive oil
¼ tsp. garlic powder
¼ tsp. onion powder

Put the pinto beans, water, kosher salt and black pepper into the crock pot and stir. Cook on low for 8 hours.

Add olive oil, garlic powder and onion powder to crock pot and mash with potato masher.

Mash until beans are slightly chunky and look like refries you get in Mexican restaurant.

Keep warm until serving.
